Accidents Addylynn Grace Children Healing Maryah's Story Miscellaneous Salvation Weather The seas have lifted up, O Lord, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea--the Lord on high is mighty. (Psalm 93:3-4 NIV) |
About thirty years ago, I was bathing my five-year-old daughter while there was a terrible thunderstorm raging outside. The thunder was so fierce, it was shaking the windows and rattling the walls, with no time between crashes. We were both very afraid and trying to hurry to get her out of the bathtub. She was starting to cry. So, for the first time in my life, I asked God for an immediate answer. I told her we would pray to God to stop the terrible noise. I cried out, "Father. please make the noise stop." There was immediate silence. I was amazed that he replied so quickly and hoped that would teach her to have faith. It certainly increased mine. My story does not take place in the Bible, or far away in Israel or Asia, but it takes place closest to all of us. In our hearts. In my heart... I'm seventeen-years-old, and my story takes place a few years ago at my summer home in Wisconsin. The day started out just like the rest, partly cloudy and a little warmer than usual. Nothing seemed strange. I just sat on the porch surrounded by the beauty of God: a lake and the trees. The closest thing to paradise. No one around for what seems to be miles. Just my grandparents and me. Then around sunset the sky was darkened with clouds. A storm was abrewen', and that made me very nervous. You see for many years I have had a phobia of storms, and at that time I was still in counseling. I sat in my room crying my eyes out because fear had taken over. My grandmother sat next to me trying to calm me down, but it was all for not. Then she handed me The Bible and it felt kind of strange. I believed in God, but rarely read the Bible by myself. The second I opened it and put my finger on a word to start reading the word seemed to come to life. The word was "rejoice," and at that very second the storm stopped. As my grandfather watched the T.V. he said it was weird how the storm seemed to be intensifying when it suddenly dissipated. As he said that I ran outside into the mud and looked up. The stars were out. That was the first time I felt the living God and Christ Jesus all around me. It seemed like They gave me a great big hug, and they have never let go. I have felt Their presence and seen Their glory from that day to this. There love is all around us, but it's up to us to reach out for it. Last year on Christmas eve, we went to the home of my mother-in-law for dinner. It was snowing very hard and, as we lived in the mountains, we made an early day of it. As we turned off the interstate to drive the ten miles into the mountains, visibility became zero. We all begin to pray, even my sixteen-year-old daughter who pushed the Lord away most of the time. The next thing we knew, the wind had stopped and the sky had cleared. We made it to our house and as soon as we got inside, the wind began to blow and the visibility was zero again. We all praised the Lord and thanked Him for the wonderful Christmas present. His presence. Praise God! I have another one. We were moving back to Wyoming from Missouri and it was dark. There was a storm brewing and the next thing we know things are flying around us. We begin to pray and pulled into a rest area. After it all died down, we drove on and on the radio they said that a tornado had touched down right on the interstate at the spot we were. Praise Jesus for keeping us safe. On Saturday, June 30, 2001, myself and five members of my church family were on our way home from a church event. We were traveling on the highway in the far middle lane with traffic on both sides, The sky was darkening and you could see a storm coming with lightening flashes ahead of us. Suddenly the right front tire blew out and every one of us remained calm, as we all expected something awful to happen because of the traffic around us. But we suddenly realized that there was no traffic near us. The driver slowly pulled the van across two lanes to the side of the highway. I remember looking back and it seems like all the traffic was cleared from us, because when we reached the side of the road and got out to repair the tire the traffic was speeding by non-stop. With lightening flashing around and raindrops starting to fall, we had the tire changed in fifteen minutes and were on our way. It was like an angel had spread his wings down across the highway to keep traffic away from us. Truly God is great and performs miracles. |
